VIDEOKONST PÅ STAN
The Project “Videokonst på stan” was an event taking place during two evenings when video art was projected on walls in central parts of Umeå and Örnsköldsvik. The goal was to point out video art as a medium and take the public space. We wanted people to experience the art passively and not have to go to a specific place to view it. We chose video art specifically because we believe that moving images are easy to experience and stop to watch. Video art can be an opening to creating interest in, or wake curiosity about the creative medium even if you are not regularly experiencing art. Another choice was to only show the works of female artists to elevate women who work with art and Technologies.
Tuesday November 29th, 2016, seven artists from Umeå Konsthögskola showed their art on the wall of culture house Väven in Umeå at 17.30-19.30. Thursday December 1st, 2016, the same art was shown in Örnsköldsvik but split between two walls, Åhlensgaraget and a brick wall at Läroverksgatan. Here as well at 17.30-19.30. Two completely different arenas with different audiences, walls and possibilities. The seven students whose art was used and who made the project possible were Ellen Angus, Linda Morell, Madeleine Kozma, Linnea Johnels, Lova Gadd, Tea Berglöw och Julia Sjölin. The result was two very exciting and effectful public displays. |
